Chap. 222.—-An ACT to amend and re-enact section forty-nine (49) of an act
entitled an act to provide a new charter for the city of Roanoke, and to
repeal the existing charter of said city and the several acts amendatory
thereof, and all other acts and parts of acts inconsistent with this act
so far as they relate to the city of Roanoke, approved March 22, 1924, as
amended by an act approved April 18, 1927, chapter ninety-two (92) of
the acts of the general assembly of Virginia, extra session 1927. [S B 374]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sec-
tion forty-nine (49) of an act entitled an act to provide a new charter
for the city of Roanoke and to repeal the existing charter of said city
and the several acts amendatory thereof and all other acts and parts
of acts inconsistent with this act, so far as they relate to the city of
Roanoke, approved March twenty-second, nineteen hundred and
twenty-four, as amended by an act approved April eighteenth, nine-
teen hundred and twenty-seven, chapter ninety-two (92) of the acts
of the general assembly of Virginia, extra session nineteen hundred and
twenty-seven, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 49. Temporary loans.—The council shall have the power
to negotiate and secure temporary loans, in anticipation of taxes, for
the purpose of paying current expenses of the city; such loans to be
evidenced by bonds or notes bearing interest at not exceeding six per
centum per annum; such bonds or notes shall be payable within one
year from the date of issue out of the current revenue of the year in
which same are issued. No such temporary loans shall in the aggre-
gate exceed the sum of four hundred thousand ($400,000.00) dollars.
