Chap. 110.—An ACT providing for filling the niches in the rotunda of the
capitol with busts of the presidents of the United States, succeeding Wash-
ington, born in Virginia. [fH B 112]
Approved March 8, 1930
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
niches in the rotunda of the capitol are hereby set apart to be filled
with busts of the presidents of the United States, succeeding Washing-
ton, born in Virginia.
2. Under the direction of the governor and the art commission,
organizations, societies or persons may be permitted to place busts, of
white marble, and of uniform size, in the several niches in the rotunda
of the capitol, the locations of which shall be, beginning with the niche
to the west of the door leading to the entrance to the south portico of
the capitol, the bust of Thomas Jefferson and, in regular order, suc-
ceeding and continuing to the right, the bust of James Madison, James
Monroe, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor and
Woodrow Wilson.
3. At such time as the governor and the art commission shall
deem proper so to do, the busts of the Confederate generals, J. E. B.
Stuart and Fitzhugh Lee, may be removed to the old hall of the house
of delegates, the place of meeting of the secession convention, and the
Confederate congress, and the busts now in the niches of chief justice
Marshall and Houdon’s LaFayette may remain in the rotunda until
the niches have been filled with busts of the presidents, or until such
time as the governor and the art commission may otherwise direct.
