Chap. 11.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 25 of chapter V of an act
entitled an act to provide a new charter for the city of L burg, Virginia,
approved March 21, 1928. [fH B 15]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sec-
tion twenty-five of chapter five of an act entitled an act to provide a
new charter for the city of Lynchburg, Virginia, approved March
twenty-first, nineteen hundred and twenty-eight be amended and re-
enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 25. First: The city council shall, in the year nineteen
hundred and thirty-one, and each fourth year thereafter, elect an officer,
who shall be called the judge of the municipal court of said city, whose
term of office shall begin on the first day of January succeeding his
election, and shall continue for four years thereafter; his salary shall
be fixed by the council and paid out of the city treasury and shall not
be diminished during his term of office.
Second: The city council shall also have authority to elect an
officer who, if elected, shall be designated as judge of the municipal
civil court, whose first term of office shall begin at such time as the
council may, by resolution, provide, and shall expire at the same time
as the then current term of the judge of the municipal court; and if
said office be established, then the successor to the judge so elected for
the first term, as above provided, shall be elected in the year nineteen
hundred and thirty-one, and each fourth year thereafter at the same
time the judge of the municipal court is elected, and his term of office
shall begin on the first day of January succeeding his election and shall
continue for four years thereafter; his salary shall be fixed by the
council and paid out of the city treasury and shall not be diminished
during his term of office. The council may elect to the position of judge
of the municipal civil court the same person who holds the position
of the judge of the municipal court.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its
passage.
