Chap. 73.—An ACT to prohibit the use of any beam trawl, trammell net, troll
net or any similar device in the Potomac river or its tributaries. [H B 66]
Approved February 27, 1926.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it
shall be unlawful to use any beam trawl, trammell net, troll net, or
any similar device in the waters of the Potomac river or of any of its
tributaries.
2. Any person, firm or corporation violating the provisions of
this act shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and on conviction thereof
shall forfeit said net or nets, or device, together with all boats, vessels
_and tackle used in the violation of this section or shall be fined not
less than fifty nor more than one hundred dollars, or shall be subject
to both such forfeiture and fine; provided, however, that nothing in
this act shall be construed in any manner to prohibit the catching of
fish through the method of seine hauling and pound net and gill net
fishing as heretofore permitted, by license or otherwise, under the
laws of the State of Virginia.
3. The provisions of this act shall become effective upon the pro-
clamation of the governor of Virginia that a similar act has become
effective in the State of Maryland.
