Chap. 69.—An ACT authorizing the beards of supervisors of Prince Edward,
Cumberland, Charlotte, Buckingham and Nottoway counties as may be
embraced in the hespital area, to, appropriate money for the construction
and maintenance of a community hospital to be located at Farmville, Vir-
ginia. ; [H B 158]

Whereas, the Commonwealth fund of the city of New York has
selected Farmville, Virginia, as the location of a community hospital
to serve an area with a radius of thirty-five miles, and agrees, upon
the people of said area to be served by said hospital which embraces
all of Prince Edward:and the greater part of the counties of Cumber-
land, Charlotte, Buckingham, Nottoway and Lunenburg and portions
of other counties contiguous thereto, raising the sum of sixty thousand
dollars ($60,000.00), to give outright to the erection and equipping
of such hospital the sum of one hundred and twenty thousand dol-
lars ($120,000.00); and

Whereas, there has already been raised from private subscriptions
the sum of approximately fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00); and

Whereas, said hospital is greatly needed by reason of the fact that
this section js remote from any general hospital; and

Whereas, as the plan of said hospital is to have the same run at
the lowest possible cost commensurate with efficiency and thus to
place hospital facilities within the reach of people of slender means,
or those without means; and

Whereas, the board of supervisors of these counties may desire to
contribute something toward the making available of the one hundred
and twenty thousand dollars ($120,000.00) offered by the Common-
wealth fund by contributing toward the raising of the sixty thousand
dollars ($60,000.00) required to be put up by the people within the
area to be served by the hospital; now, therefore,

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
boards of supervisors of Prince Edward, Cumberland, Charlotte,
Buckingham, Nottoway, and any other counties within the said hos-
pital area, are hereby authorized and empowered to make an appro-
priation, in their discretion, from the county funds of the respective
counties, a sum not to exceed five thousand dollars ($5,000.00), to be
used toward the erection and equipping of said hospital.

2. And the said respective boards of supervisors are further
authorized and empowered, in. their discretion, to make annual ap-
propriations for the maintenance and support of said hospital net to
exceed in any one year two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500.00)
by any county.

3. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its pas-
sage.
