Chap. 583.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 5791 of the Code of Vir-
ginia, 1919, providing for the liability of intrastate common carriers by
railroad operated by steam for injury to, or death of, employees. [S B 170]

1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
fifty-seven hundred and ninety-one of the Code of Virginia, be amend-
ed and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 5791. Liability of intrastate common carriers by rail-
roads operated by steam for injury to, or death of, employees.—
Every common carrier by railroad engaged in intrastate commerce,
whose motive power is steam, shall be liable in damages to any of its
employees suffering injury while employed by such carrier, except
when such employee is injured while engaged in interstate commerce,
and except when such employees are injured in the course of their
regular employment, which regular employment does not expose such
employee to the hazards incident to the maintenance, use and opera-
tion of such railroads, and in case of his death, to his personal repre-
sentative, for such injury or death, resulting in whole or in part from
the wrongful act or neglect of any of its officers, agents, servants or
employees of such carriers, or by reason of any defect, or insufficiency

road-bed. works. boats. wharves or other equipment. If the acnor
