Chap. 558.—An ACT to appropriate $145.00 to reimburse Charles Cortlandt
Walton, Jr., for expenditures made and _ bills incurred by him in the or-
ganization and recruiting of the Ninth Company, Virginia Coast Artillery,
between the time its organization was authorized by the State erat itor and
its muster into Federal service, August 4, 1917. [H B 508]

Whereas, it appears that between July second, nineteen hundred
and seventeen, on which date the organization was authorized by the
adjutant general of the State of Virginia, and its muster into federal
service on August fourth, nineteen hundred and seventeen, Charles
Cortlandt Walton, Junior, captain of the Ninth Company, Virginia
Coast Artillery, expended money and incurred indebtedness for which
he was personally responsible aggregating one hundred and forty-five
dollars, which expenditures and indebtedness were necessary in the
recruiting of the said military organization as a part of Virginia's con-
tribution to the national guard in time of war; now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
sum of one hundred and forty-five dollars be, and the same is hereby,
appropriated out of any money in the treasury of the commonwealth
not heretofore appropriated for the purpose of reimbursing Charles
Cortlandt Walton, Junior, of Richmond, Virginia, former captain
Ninth Company, Virginia Coast Artillery, stationed at Fortress
Monroe, Virginia, until sent to France in nineteen hundred and
eighteen.
2. That the auditor of public accounts be, and he is hereby,
authorized, empowered and directed to forthwith draw his warrant
in favor of Charles Cortlandt Walton, Junior, on the treasury of Vir-
ginia, for the sum of one hundred and forty-five dollars, for the pur-
pose in this act stated.
3. All acts and parts of acts in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed.
