Chap. 454.—An ACT to extend the time that R. E. Lee Camp, Number One,
Confederate Veterans shall have the possession, use and control of the
property conveyed by it to the Commonwealth of Virginia by deed dated
March 24, 1892, commonly known as the Confederate Soldiers Tek

Whereas, for the proper care of the Confederate veterans now being
maintained in the Confederate Soldiers’ Home in the city of Richmond.
it is necessary that much needed repairs be made to the buildings at
said home, and under the act approved March third, eighteen hundred
and ninety-two, entitled an act making an annual appropriation tc
the Confederate Soldiers’ Home, and in consideration therefor accept-
ing a conveyance from R. E. Lee Camp, number one, Confederate
veterans, of the property owned by it and now used for said home
and the act approved March sixth, nineteen hundred and twenty.
amending section three of said act approved March third, eighteen
hundred and ninety-two, the possession and control of the property
conveyed by R. E. Lee Camp, number one, Confederate veterans, to
the Commonwealth of Virginia by deed dated March twenty-fourth,
eighteen hundred and ninety-two, expires on March third, nineteen
hundred and twenty-eight; and it is manifest that the work for which
said home was established, to-wit: The caring for Confederate
soldiers and sailors, cannot be completed by March third, nineteen
hundred and twenty-eight; and it is necessary for the board of visitors
of said home to know before undertaking needed repairs for what fur-
ther period of time R. E. Lee Camp, number one, Confederate vet-
erans, may have the possession, use and control of said property; now,
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
Commonwealth of Virginia, does hereby grant unto R. E. Lee Camp,
number one, Confederate veterans, subject to the proviso below
written, the possession, use and control for a period of ten years from
the date this act becomes effective of all the property conveyed to the
Commonwealth of Virginia by R. E. Lee Camp, number one, Con-
federate veterans, dated March twenty-fourth, eighteen hundred and
ninety-two, except only so much of said property as has been granted
or conveyed to the Confederate Memorial Institute, by act of the
general assembly, approved January twenty-eighth, nineteen hundred
and twenty-six granted to any corporation having as its purpose the
care of widows and sisters of Confederate soldiers and sailors; pro-
vided, however, that said property thereby granted shall be used by
said R. E. Lee Camp, number one, for the purposes for which it.is now
used; and provided, further, that in the event it shall cease to be used
for said purposes, to-wit: The care thereon of Confederate soldiers
and sailors the right of possession, use and control hereby granted
shall ipso facto cease and determine.
