Chap. 441.—An ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Mathews county
_ to operate, in whole or in part, a ferry between the mainland and Gwynn’s
island, or to purchase, maintain and operate the ferry ngw in operation be-
tween the said points. [H B 298]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
board of supervisors of Mathews county be, and it is hereby, auth-
orized to operate, in whole or in part, a ferry between Marchant and
Taylor's Wharf on the mainland in Mathews county and Callis’
Wharf on Gwynn’s Island in the said county in accordance with such
rules and regulations as the board may adopt. The said board shall
have authority to vary the points between which the said ferry is
operated between the mainland and Gwynn’s Island, at any time for
cause deemed sufficient by it.
2. The said board of supervisors is further authorized and em-
powered, in its discretion, to acquire title to the property and equip-
ment of the ferry now being operated between the mainland and
Gwynn’s Island in the county of Mathews, and to operate the same
between Marchant and Taylor’s Wharf on the mainland and Callis’
Wharf on Gwynn’s Island, or between any other points on the main-
land and Gwynn’s Island, under the supervision, ownership and con-
trol of thesaid county. The title toany ferry property and equipment
acquired hereunder shall be taken in the name of the county of
Mathews, and the ferry shall be maintained and operated by the said
county in accordance with such rules and regulations as may be
adopted by the said board; provided, however, that nothing in this
act shall effect the legal status of any ferry now in operation between
Gwynn’s Island and_the mainland.
