Chap. 438.—An ACT to authorize and empower the board of supervisors of the
county of Wise to use for any lawful purpose whatsoever, or lease, or sell and
convey, in its discretion, the home for women and girls in the county of
Wise, established under the provisions of chapter 73 of the acts of assembly
of 1922, together with all property of every kind and description used in con-
nection with such home; and to provide for the submission of the question
of the use, lease or sale thereof to the qualified voters of Wise county.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
hoard of supervisors of Wise county be, and it is hereby authorized
and empowered, in its discretion, to use for any lawful purpose what-
soever, or to lease or sell and convey the home for women and girls
established under and by virtue of the provisions of chapter seventy-
three of the acts of assembly of nineteen hundred and twenty-two,
together with all property of every kind and description used in con-
nection with said home.
The said board of supervisors for Wise county may in lieu of exer-
cising the discretion hereinbefore conferred, upon a petition of at least
ten per centum of the qualified voters of Wise county, which said
petition shall state with precision the manner of exercising the fore-
going objects, enter an order incorporating the substance of the said
petition requesting the circuit court for Wise county, or the judge
thereof in vacation, to call a special election for the purpose of re-
ferring the said objects specified in said petition to a vote of the
qualified voters throughout Wise county, for or against said objects.
The said special election shall be held on the order of the circuit
court, or judge thereof in vacation, and authority is hereby conferred
on said court for the purpose of providing fully therefor. The special
election shall not be held in less than thirty days after the entry of the
said order of the circuit court of Wise county providing for said
election, or until after the publication of the foregoing order entered
by the circuit court of Wise county in some newspaper or newspapers
of general circulation throughout the said county for a period of four
consecutive weeks.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its
passage.
