Chap. 250.—An ACT to authorize the city of Williamsburg to borrow a sum of
money not exceeding $25,000.00, and to issue bonds therefor, for the purpose
of refunding certain water and sewer system and public school bonds which
were issued but not sold, and to pay off the floating indebtedness of the
said city. (H1 B 320]
Approved March 23, 1926.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
mayor and council of the city of Williamsburg are hereby authorized
and empowered to borrow a sum of money not exceeding twenty-five
thousand dollars, and to issue the city’s bonds therefor, the said
bonds to be issued in such form and denominations, and to be payable
at such time or times not exceeding thirty years from the date thereof,
as the said council may prescribe. The said bonds shall bear interest
at not exceeding six per centum per annum and shall not be sold at
less than par.
2. The amount of money received from the sale of these bonds
shall be used for the purpose of refunding certain water and sewer
system and public school bonds and warrants which were issued but
not sold, and to pay off the floating indebtedness of the said city,
which was incurred in erecting school buildings.
3. But the foregoing provisions of this act are subject to the
following qualification, that no bonds shall be issued under this act
unless and until at a special election to be held in said city on such
date as may be fixed by the council, or at a general election, a majority
of the qualified voters living within the corporate limits of said city
and voting in the said election shall vote in favor of such bonds; pro-
vided, however, if the said question is submitted to the voters at a
general election separate ballots shall be used. And it is hereby made
the duty of the regular election officers to prepare the ballots and
otherwise provide for the submission of the said question to the voters
at the said election... On each ballot shall be printed, in separate
lines, the following:
For bond issue
Against bond issue
Voters desiring to vote in favor of the issuance of the said bonds shall
strike out the words ‘“‘against bond issue,’’ and voters desiring to vote
against the bond issue shall strike out the words “for bond issue.”
Voters striking out or erasing the words ‘‘for’’ or ‘‘against”’ shall be
deemed to have stricken out or erased the entire line.
