Whereas, the Commonwealth caused certain elk to be brought into
this State and released; and,

Whereas, a law was passed making it a misdemeanor for any person
to kill such elk; and,

Whereas, such elk destroyed during the years nineteen hundred and
eighteen and nineteen hundred and nineteen certain property owned by
Lucy A. Markham, deceased; now, therefore, )

1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the com-
missioner of game and inland fisheries be, and he is hereby authorized
and directed to investigate the question of the destruction of property
of Lucy A. Markham, deceased, as above mentioned, and to pay to the
proper person, out of the game protection fund, such damages as may
be shown by such investigation to have been sustained.
