Chap. 248.—An ACT to provide for a county road engineer in Campbell county.

1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the board
of supervisors of Campbell county be, and it is hereby authorized and
empowered to employ, in co-operation with the several district road
boards, a county road engineer, who shall be a person well versed in
practical road building and competent to establish grades and construct
roads. He shall qualify as other county officers are required to qualify,
and shall enter into and acknowledge a bond in such penalty as the
board of supervisors and a majority of the district road boards may pre-
scribe, not less than five hundred dollars. Such bond shall be payable
to the county and with condition for the faithful discharge of his duties;
and any recovery upon such bond shall be for the benefit of the road
fund of such county. Such county road engineer shall be under the
joint supervision and control of the board of supervisors and the several
district road boards in the construction and maintenance of the public
roads of the several districts which may elect to co-operate in the em-
ployment of such engineer, and shall receive such compensation as they
may fix co-operatively.
It is further provided that said board of supervisors is hereby author-
ized to co-operate with the State highway department in the further
employment of said engineer under such arrangements as may be made
with the State highway commission, which engineer, under such agree-
ment, may be given supervision of such construction and maintenance
of State roads in said county as it may be so arranged to place under the
supervision of such engineer.
2. Anemergency existing, this act shall be in force from its passage.
