Chap. 155.—An ACT for the protection of fish in the streams and water courses
of Russell county. {H B 237}
Approved March 14, 1924.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it shall
be unlawful for any person to catch, take, or kill any fish of any kind
whatsoever in any of the streams and water courses of Russell county,
except with hook and line, hooks with artificial bait, hooks attached
to a trot line, or with a gig.
2. It shall be unlawful for any person to catch, take, or kill any
fish of any kind in the said streams and water courses of Russell county
by any means whatsoever, from the fifteenth day of April until the
thirtieth day of June in any year.
3. If any person shall violate any of the provisions of this act he
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction shall be
fined not less: than fifty dollars nor more than one hundred dollars,
and be sentenced to work on the public roads of Russell county for
not less than thirty days, nor more than sixty days.
4. The possession of any fish caught in violation of this act shall
be considered as prima facie evidence of the violation of this act, and
any person reporting a violation of this act, shall, upon the guilty per-
son’s arrest and conviction thereof, be entitled to one-half of the fine
when collected.
5. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its pds-
sage.
