prevent damage and injuries by dogs, and to provide compensation to owners
of stock so injured, to provide for license on dogs, and to provide for penalties
for violations thereof, approved March 20, 19 8, as heretofore ames.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
one of an act entitled an act to prevent damage and injuries by dogs,
and to provide compensation to owners of stock so injured, to provide
for license on dogs, and to provide for penalties for violations thereof,
approved March twentieth, nineteen hundred and eighteen, as hereto-
fore amended, be amended ‘and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 1. It shall be the duty of every person owning, or having
under his control, or on premises upon which he resides, any dog over
four months of age, to pay on or before the first day of February, of
each year, a license tax on such dog, as hereinafter provided; or in event
such dog shall become four months of age, or come into the possession
of any person at any time after the first day of February and before
the first day of November of any year, such license tax shall forthwith be
paid thereon; but if such dog shall become four months of age, or come
into the possession of any person at any time between the first day of
November and the first day of. the following February the license tax
for the succeeding license year shall be required to be paid forthwith
and said license shall protect such dog from the date of the purchase of
the license tag until February. first. All dog licenses shall run from the
first day of February to the thirty-first day of the following January.
