Chap. 107.—An ACT to authorize the boards of supervisors of the counties of
Isle of Wight and Southampton to enact special and loca! legislation for the
protection of the public roads, ways and bridges, in said counties, and for the
orotection of lives and property of persons using such roads, ways ane bridges.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
boards of supervisors of the counties of Isle of Wight and Southampton,
respectively, shall have power to enact such special and local legislation,
for their respective counties, not in conflict with the Constitution and
general law of this State, nor in conflict with the rules and regulations of
the State highway commission made by authority of law, as they may
deem expedient to protect the public roads, ways and bridges in the said
counties, from any encroachment or obstruction, or from any improper
or exceptionally injurious use thereof, and to regulate the traffic on such
roads for the protection of the lives and property of persons using the
same, such power to extend to and to be exercised over all roads in said
counties, provided that said boards of supervisors shall not limit the
hauling of products of the farm industry in said counties.
2. <Any violation of any enactment of such board of supervisors
shall be deemed an offense against the county affected, and shall be
punished by a fine not less than two dollars and fifty cents, nor more than
one hundred dollars, or by imprisonment in jail not to exceed thirty
days, or by both, in the discretion of the court trying the case, any fines
imposed to be payable to such county or counties affected.
