Virginia, relating to the operation of automobiles, engines, etc., while
intoxicated. [H B 52]
Approved March 24, 1923.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section forty-seven hundred and twenty-two of the Code of
Virginia be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Sec. 4722. Running automobiles, engines, et cetera, while
intoxicated; how punished.—It shall be unlawful for any person
to drive or run any automobile, car, truck, engine, or train while
‘under the influence of intoxicants. If any person violates the
provisions of this section he shall be guilty of a misdemeanor,
and the judgment of conviction shall of itself operate to deprive
him of his right to drive any such vehicle or conveyance for a
period of one year from the date of such judgment. If any
person so convicted shall, during such year, drive any such
vehicle or conveyance, he shall be guilty of a misdemeanor; but
nothing in this section shall be construed as conflicting with or
repealing any ordinance or resolution of any city, town or
county, heretofore or hereafter adopted, which restricts still
further the right of such persons to drive any such vehicle or
conveyance.
