Chap. 48.—An ACT authorizing the council of the town of Phoebus in
the county of Elizabeth City annually to levy an additional tax on
property in Phoebus school district of not exceeding fifty cents on
the one hundred dollars of the assessed value of property in said
district in order to provide for the payment of the interest on, and
the creation of a sinking fund for, the bonded indebtedness of said
district. [H B 48]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
in addition to the levies now authorized by law for school pur-
poses, the council of the town of Phoebus, in the county of
Elizabeth City, is hereby authorized annually to levy a tax on
property in Phoebus school district, of not exceeding fifty
cents on the one hundred dollars of the assessed value of
property in said district in order to provide for the payment of
the interest on, and the creation of a sinking fund for, the
bonded indebtedness of the said district, and revenue raised
by said additional tax, if levied, shall be used for the purposes
aforesaid, and the town treasurer shall be allowed a fee of two
per cent. for collection of same.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from
its passage.
