Chap. 83.—JOINT RESOLUTION in relation to the Establishment of a
Line of Steamers between the City of Norfolk and some Port in Eu-
nOpes Agreed to May 12, 1870.
Whereas, a bill has been introduced.in the congress of the
United States providing for the establishment of six steam-
ship lines between different parts of the United States and
Europe, and allowing a subsidy of seven hundred and fifty
thousand dollars for each company; and, whereas, we have in
the state of Virginia a port equal if not swperior to any in the
United States; therefore, be it
Resolved by the house of delegates (the senate concurring),
t our senators be instructed and our representatives be re-
quested to use all honorable means for the purpose of estab-
lishing a line between the city of Norfolk and some port in
the European states, or for the purpose of securing a ratable
proportion of such subsidy in aid of any line of steamships
established having for its port of arrival in the United States
the city of Norfolk. |
