Chap. 97.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 8 of an act approved March
10, 1902, entitled an act prescribing the manner of working and keeping
in repair the public roads, and the manner of opening and constructing
new roads and bridges and discontinuing public roads in Alleghany county,
Virginia. (HB

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
eight of an act entitled an act prescribing the manner of working and
keeping in repair the public roads and the manner of opening and
constructing new roads and bridges and discontinuing public roads
in Alleghany county, Virginia, as approved March tenth, nineteen
hundred and two, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Sec. 8. The board of supervisors shall pay each of the said super-
intendents of public roads for their services the sum of not less than
seventy-five ($75.00) dollars, nor more than one hundred and fifty
($150.00) dollars per month, the same to be paid by warrant on the
county treasurer, payable out of the road fund, such warrant to be
issued by the said board to the superintendent of public roads for their
services at the expiration of each month, after their term of service
begins. The said board shall have the power of withholding from
any one of the superintendents of public roads any warrant or money
due him for services at any time, if such superintendent of roads has
failed to perform any of his duties as such superintendent. The said
board of supervisors are hereby authorized to pay the clerk of said
board a sum not in excess of six hundred dollars per annum, the
amount to be determined by said board, for services in drawing and
delivering road warrants upon the order of said board, and for keep-
ing all of the various road accounts of said board of supervisors,
which accounts are to be kept in such a manner and form as the sai
board shall direct. _ The compensation therein authorized to be paic
