Chap. 500.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 55 of chapter 388, acts,
1918, relating to fees of officers, and so forth, in connection with violations
of the prohibition act, approved March 19, 1918. . TS B 307]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
fifty-five of chapter three hundred and eighty-eight, acts nineteen hun-
dred and eighteen, relating to fees of officers, and so forth, in connec-
tion with violations of the prohibition act, approved March nineteenth,
nineteen hundred and eighteen, be amended and re-enacted so as to
read as follows:
Sec. 55. Certain officials charged with the enforcement of pro-
visions of this act; fees.—It shall be the duty of all chiefs of police,
police boards, police justices, special officers, sheriffs, attorneys for the
Commonwealth, deputies, constables and justices of the peace of the
counties and cities, and all mayors, sergeants and their deputies, jus-
tices of the peace and police of the cities and towns of this State to
enforce all of the provisions of this act, and the neglect, failure or
refusal of such officers so to do shall be deemed misfeasance in office.
For official services rendered in connection with violation of this
act all said officers, including police officers of cities and towns, clerks
of courts having jurisdiction to try such cases, and witnesses sum-
moned on behalf of the Commonwealth, shall be entitled to and shall
be paid the same fees as are now allowed by law in felony cases, said
fees to be paid as are now or may hereafter be prescribed by law in
felony cases other than violations of the revenue laws; provided, how-
ever, the fees mentioned in this section when paid out of the State
treasury shall be for the same amount and shall be payable in the same
manner as the law now prescribes or may hereafter prescribe in other
felony or misdemeanor cases.
All unused stamps now held by persons or corporations under the
provisions of section sixty-seven of chapter three hundred and eighty-
eight, acts nineteen hundred and eighteen, shall be redeemed by the
State treasurer upon presentation to him.
