Chap. 421.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act to provide a
new charter for the town of Abingdon, Virginia, and to repeal all other
acts with reference thereto, in effect January 22, 1900, as heretofore amended
by adding a new section thereto, to be known as section 23. [H B 434]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That an
act entitled an act to provide a new charter for the town of Abing-
don, Virginia, and to repeal all other acts with reference thereto,
in effect January twenty-second, nineteen hundred, as_ heretofore
amended, be amended by adding a new section thereto to be known
as section twenty-three, and to read as follows:
Sec. 23. That the town council of said town shall have authority
by ordinance, to provide each fiscal year for the assessment and
valuation of all property, real and personal, within the corporate limits
-of said town, for the purpose of local taxation. The authority hereby
vested is not to conflict with any State control of local assessments
or valuations, but is to be exercised generally for all other purposes
of local taxation and revenue.
