Chap. 418.—An ACT to permit wild birds and wild animals protected by law to
be captured alive and held in captivity for propagation purposes. [HH B 133]
Approved March 22, 1920.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That per-
mits to capture alive and hold in captivity during winter weather
wild birds and wild animals may be granted by the commissioner of
the department of game and inland fisheries to such persons as he
may deem properly equipped and morally responsible.
2. Any bird or any animal while so held must be properly fed.
protected and kept alive, and shall be liberated not later than in the
month of April following by the permittee, unless this time is extended
by the commissioner.
3. The commissioner of the department of game and inland fish-
eries may, when agreeable to the permittee, obtain any of the wild
birds or of the wild animals held in captivity under the provisions
of this chapter for re-stocking depleted game fields in other parts of
this State.
4. Any person disposing of wild birds or animals, so held, dead
or alive, except as provided for under section three of this act, or
violating any of the provisions of this act, shall be deemed guilty
of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be fined not less than
ney dollars nor more than two hundred and fifty dollars for each
offense.
