Chap. 16.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 3852 of the Code of eS
Approved February 10, 1920.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sectior
thirty-eight hundred and fifty-two of the Code of Virginia be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Sec. 3852. Privileges and immunities forfeited by alteration, et
cetera, of charter.—The charter of any corporation heretofore incorpo-
rated under the laws of this State and authorized to do any business
permitted under section thirty-eight hundred and forty-nine, may be
altered or amended, and the charter thereof extended in the manner
and subject to the limitations prescribed in section thirty-seven hun-
dred and eighty, so as to obtain any privilege, power or authority,
not inconsistent with this chapter and the general incorporation laws
of this State, which might be obtained and enjoyed by any such cor-
poration organized hereunder, and any extension, which, under this
chapter, a corporation organized hereunder might obtain; but, any
such corporation which shall hereafter accept or effect any amend-
ment or any extension of its charter hereunder shall be conclusively
presumed to have thereby surrendered every exemption from taxation,
and every non-repealable feature of its charter and of the amend-
ments thereof; and, also, all exclusive rights or privileges granted
to it by the general assembly, and not enjoyed by other corporations
of a similar general character, and to have thereby agreed to there-
after hold its charter and franchises, and all amendments thereof,
under the provisions and subject to all the requirements, terms, and
conditions of the Constitution of Virginia, and of any laws passed
in pursuance thereof, so far as the same may be applicable to such
corporation.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its
passage.
