Chap. 435.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 581 of the Code of Vir-
ginia, : {H B 462]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sec-
tion five hundred and eighty-one of the Code of Virginia be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Sec. 581. Establishment of art commission; members; appoint-
ment; terms of office; officers; quorum.—There shall be an art com-
mission in and for the State of Virginia, composed of the governor,
ex-officio, and four persons appointed by him. One of such members
shall be appointed by the governor from a list of painters and sculp-
tors, nominated by the governing board of the Virginia League of
Fine Arts and Handicrafts, Incorporated ; one from a list of architects
nominated by the governing board of the chapter of the American
Institute of Architects existing within the State; one from a list of
persons nominated by the governing board of the University of
Virginia, and one at large. The members of the commission ap-
pointed in the first instance shall choose by lot terms of office for
one, two, three and four years, and their successors shall be appointed
for terms of four years each, except appointments to fill vacancies,
which shall be for the unexpired term. The governor shall have
authority to fill all vacancies in the manner of the original appoint-
ments. The members of the commission shall serve without com-
pensation. From their own members they shall elect such officers
as may be deemed proper. Three commissioners shall constitute
a quorum.
