CHAP. 12.—An ACT to amend and re-enact the act approved March 4,
1914, entitled an act to amend and re-enact section 45 of the act to
provide a charter for the town of Lexington, approved April 28, 1874.

1.. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the act approved March fourth, nineteen hundred and fourteen,
entitled an act to amend and re-enact section forty-five of an
act to provide a charter for the town of Lexington, approved
April twenty-eighth, eighteen hundred and seventy-four, be
amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Sec. 45. The town of Lexington shall constitute a separate
school district, and the mayor and council shall levy a sufficient
tax for the purpose of supporting the public school in said town.
The said town shall have charge of all the streets and roads
within the corporate limits, and of the roads leading into the
town for one mile beyond the corporate limits, as follows: the
road known as the old Plank road, from the corporate limits
at the bridge over North river, thence for one mile in the direc-
tion of Fairfield; the road leading to Buena Vista, from the
corporate limits by Col. Alto for one mile; the road known as the
old Plank road, from the corporate limits, in the direction of
the Natural Bridge, for one mile; the road known as the old
Covington pike, from the corporation limits, thence in the di-
rection of Collierstown, passing the town reservoir, for one mile,
and also the road leading to Kerr’s creek, beginning at the intér-
section with the Covington pike at the late residence of A. T.
Barclay ; thence by the lime kiln, in the direction of Kerr’s creek,
for a distance of one mile, to be measured from the corporate
limits at Wood’s creek, and the mayor and council of the town
shall levy a sufficient tax to keep the same in order; provided.
however, that the town of Lexington shall, with the consent and
approval of the board of supervisors of Rockbridge county, be
released and discharged from the provisions and requirements
above specified in request to any, or so much of, the above desig-
nated roads extending beyond the corporate limits of said town,
as may, or shall be made, a part of the highway system of the
State, or of any highway or project which is, or shall be, a part
of that system. The said town, and the taxable persons and
property therein, shall be exempt from any and all county and
district taxes levied for school and road purposes.
