Chap. 329.—An ACT to appropriate $500.00 to erect a memorial tablet in
the capitol building to commemorate ‘the capitol disaster,” which occurred
on April 27th, 1870. [H B 428}
Approved March 16, 1918.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
there shall be placed on the walls of the capitol building, either in
the old hall of the house of delegates or in the rotunda of the
capitol, as the committee hereinafter named shall deem proper, a
memorial tablet to commemorate the event of “The Capitol Disaster,”
which occurred on the twenty-seventh day of April, eighteen hun-
dred and seventy, in which disaster sixty-two persons were killed
and two hundred and fifty persons were seriously wounded.
' 2. On said tablet there shall be a brief sketch of the disaster
that took place in the old hall of the house of delegates prepared
by the committee.
8. That a committee of five; two from the senate and three from
‘he house of delegates, be appointed to carry out the provisions
of this act.
' 4, That the sum of five hundred dollars, or so much thereof as
nay be necessary, be appropriated out of any money in the treasury,
10t otherwise appropriated, to be used by the committee to carry
mut this act.
5. It is necessary to have this work done as soon as possible
md an emergency exists, it is ordered that this act shall take effect
rom its passage.
