Chap. 15.—An ACT to amend and re-enact sub-section 4 of section 20 of the
charter of the city of Norfolk, as amended by an act approved March
17, 1916. {[H B 15]

1, Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sub-
section four of section twenty of the charter of the city of Norfolk,
as amended by an act approved March seventeenth, nineteen hundred
and sixteen, be amended and re-enacted to read as follows: .
Fourth. To erect within said city a city prison, and such prison
may contain such apartments as shall be necessary for the safe-
keeping and employment of all persons confined therein, and to
provide, by ordinance, for the employment or working, either with-
in or without the city limits, or within or without any city prison
or jail, all persons sentenced to confinement in said prison or jail
for the violation of the laws of the State of Virginia, provided such
persons shall not be so emploved or worked without the city limits
after July 31. 19198, but this act shall otherwise remain in full forec
and effect.
