Chap. 50.—An ACT to appropriate money by the board of supervisors and
councils of cities to defray expenses to unveiling of statue at Gettys-
burg. (H. B. 157.)
Approved March 10, 1914.
Whereas, Virginia has made appropriations to have erected on
the battlefield of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, a monument com-
memorating the services of Virginia troops in that battle; and,
Whereas, the commission appointed to have the monument
erected, has selected the equestrial statue of General Robert E. Lee
as the monument; and,
Whereas, the said statue will be ready to be erected in the near
future; and,
Whereas, it is appropriate for the confederate veterans of Vir-
ginia to attend the unveiling ceremonies; and,
Whereas, so many old veterans would be so glad to be present
when the statue is unveiled, and so many are not financially able to
pay their own expenses; now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the board of supervisors of the several counties of the State, and
councils of the cities of the State, are hereby authorized to appro-
priate money to defray the expenses of the confederate veterans of
the said counties and cities desiring to attend the unveiling of the
monument at Gettysburg, when it shall take place. The number
of veterans to have their expenses paid to be left to the discretion
of the board of supervisors of the counties, and councils of the
cities.
