Chap. 145.—An ACT appropriating $1,078 to the county of Wythe to reim-
burse the county for amount paid the judge sent by the governor to pre-
side in the trial of the cases growing out of the Hillsville murders.

Whereas, in consequence of the feeling in the county of Carroll,
growing out of the killing of the judge of the circuit court, the
Commonwealth’s attorney, sheriff and other persons in the case of
the Commonwealth against Floyd Allen, a change of venue to the
circuit court of the county of Wythe was granted, and Judge
Staples of the city of Roanoke, was directed by the governor to
preside in the trial of the seven murder cases growing out of the
Hillsville tragedy; and,
Whereas, in consequence of the said change of venue and the
assignment of the judge, the county of Wythe was required by law
to pay, and did pay to the judge without any volition on its part,
the sum of one thousand and seventy-eight dollars; aud,
Whereas, the said trials were very extraordinary and the law
authorizing the change of venue made no provisions for the pay-
ment of expenses; now, therefore, .
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the auditor of public accounts be, and he is hereby, authorized and
required to draw his warrant on the treasurer of the State of Vir-
ginia in favor of the treasury of the county of Wythe for the sum
of one thousand and seventy-eight dollars, payable out of any money
in the treasury.
