Chap. 113.—An ACT to provide for the issuance by the city of Newport News
of $40,000.00 of bonds for rebuilding and equipping the John W. Daniel
School, recently destroyed by fire. (H. B. 203.)
Approved March 16, 1914.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
in addition to the present indebtedness of the city of ‘Newport
News and the certificates of debt or bonds which the council ot the
said city is authorized by law to issue, the council of the said city
may, by three-fourths vote of all the members of each branch, in
the name and for the use of the said city, cause to be issued certi-
ficates of debt or bonds (the form of which shall be prescribed by
the council), in the amount of forty thousand dollars, payable in
United States currency, bearing a rate of interest not exceeding
six percentum per annum, and payable in ten years from their
date. ‘
2. The said council is hereby authorized to expend the amount
realized from the sale of said bonds in rebuilding, equipping and
furnishing the public school building known as the John W. Daniel
school, and recently destroyed by fire.
3. As the citv of Newport News is in immediate need of this
money for rebuilding the said school for its next session, an emer-
gency is hereby declared, and this act shall be in force from its
passage.
