CHAP. 45.—An ACT to protect fish in the waters of Roanoke city, Roanoke
county and Montgomery county.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be unlawful to take any fish from the waters of Roanoke
city, Roanoke county, or in the waters of Roanoke river or
its tributaries in Montgomery county, by means of seines, traps,
or any device except by hook and line and rod: provided, that
dip nets not over six feet square, skim nets and gigs shall be
excepted from the operation of the provisions of this act.
2. Any person violating the provisions of the preceding sec-
tion of this act shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and
on conviction thereof shall be fined not less than twenty dollars
nor more than fifty dollars for each offense, and upon failure
to pay such fine, the person or persons offending may be confined
in the county jail not exceeding thirty days.
38. An emergency existing by reason of the spawning season
coming very early in the spring, this act shall be in force from
its passage.
