CHAP. 34.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 848 of the Code of Vir-
ginia, as heretofore amended, in relation to the compensation of super-
visors.
Approved February 14, 1912.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section eight hundred and forty-eight of the Code of Virginia,
as heretofore amended, be amended and re-enacted so as to read
as follows:
$848. Compensation of supervisors.—Each member of the
board of supervisors shall be allowed, and paid out of the county
levy, a compensation for his services in attending the meetings of
the board and in discharging such other duties as may be imposed
upon him by law at a rate of four dollars per diem for the time
he shall be actually so employed, and five cents for each mile of
travel in going to and returning from the place of meeting of
said board; but no per diem allowance shall be made for any
time occupied in traveling where mileage is allowed therefor:
provided, that but one mileage shall be allowed for any one terr
of meeting of such board: provided, further, that no superviso
shall draw pay for more than eighteen days in counties of te
thousand population and less, nor shall he draw pay for mor
than twenty-five days in counties of more than ten thousan
and less than thirty thousand population, nor shall he draw pa
for more than thirty days in counties of thirty thousand popu
lation and not over forty thousand, and counties of over fort:
thousand population he shall draw pay for not more than fort:
days in any one year: provided, further, that the provisions o
this act shall not prevent supervisors in the counties which hav
special road laws from receiving additional compensation fo
services in connection with road work done under said specia
road laws now existing or as hereafter amended: provided, suc!
compensation be allowed in such special road law: and providec
further, that nothing in this act shall allow a member of th
board of supervisors to draw pay on the same day for service
as supervisor and as inspector or commissioner of roads: pro
vided, that the supervisors of Henrico county may receive a
much as two hundred dollars each per annum: provided, fur
ther, that each member of the board of supervisors of the coun
ties of Isle of Wight and Nansemond may be paid as compen
sation for his services in the supervision of the opening anc
repair of the public roads of said counties not exceeding thre
dollars per diem for the time he shall be actually so employed
provided, that no supervisor shall receive for such services com
pensation to exceed one hundred dollars per annum in additiot
to the amount allowed by law for other services.
2. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent with this act ar
hereby repealed.
