CHAP. 297.—An ACT to authorize the county school board of the county of
James City to convey what is known as the Hickory Neck academy lot,
with the building thereon, to the duly appointed trustees for the con-
gregation of Hickorv Neck Protestant Episcopal church of Blissland-
parish, in James City county, Virginia.
Approved March 14, 1912.
Whereas, the county school board of the county of James
City has, for a number of years been in possession of what is
known as the Hickory Neck academy lot, with an old brick build-
ing thereon, which has for a number of years been used for pub-
lic school purposes; and
Whereas, the said lot and building are no longer used for
school purposes by reason of the construction of a high school
building at Toano, in said county, a short distance from said
Hickory Neck academy; and
Whereas, by reason of the destruction of the records of the
said county of James City, there is no definite information show-
ing from what source the title to the said property was derived;
and
Whereas, it is an undisputed fact that the said building was
at one time used, owned and occupied as a house of public worship
by the congregation known as the Hickory Neck church of Bliss-
land parish, James City county, Virginia; and
Whereas, the said congregation is desirous for the reorgani-
zation of said church; therefore,
1. Pe it enacted bv the general assembly of Virginia, That
the county school board of the county of James City be, and it
is hereby, authorized and empowered, through its president and
clerk, to convey to the duly appointed trustees of said Hickory
Neck church of Blissland parish, James City county, Virginia,
the aforesaid lot of land, with the building thereon, the said
property to be held bv said trustees, or the survivors, or survivor
of them, or their successors respectively, as a place of public
worship, for the use and benefit of the congregation worshipping
in the building now erected, or which may hereafter be erected
thereon, according to the doctrine, discipline and worship of the
Protestant Episcopal church in the United States of America,
under the constitution and general canons of said church, and
also under the constitution and canons of the diocese of southern
Virginia, or such diocese as may hereafter have jurisdiction over
said place of public worship.
