CHaP. 224.—An ACT to authorize the auditor of public accounts to pay
certain costs incurred in the case of the Commonwealth vs. Henry
Clay Beattie, Jr.
Approved March 18, 1912.
Whereas, in the trial of Henry Clay Beattie, Junior, for the
murder of his wife in the county of Chesterfield, expenses were
incurred amounting to two thousand seven hundred and twenty-
seven dollars and two cents which cannot be paid under the ex-
isting laws, but which were necessary for the speedy trial of
the case and to meet the extraordinary efforts of the defense;
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the auditor of public accounts be, and is hereby, authorized
and empowered to pay such extraordinary costs as may have
been incurred in and about the said trial of the case of the
Commonwealth versus Henry Clay Beattie, Junior.
No bill shall be paid without receipt of the approval of the
attorney for the commonwealth prosecuting the case for Ches-
terfield county, and in no case must the amount paid exceed two
thousand seven hundred and twenty-seven dollars and two cents.
