CHAP. 182.—An ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Charlotte
county to sell or rent a farm containing five hundred acres, situated
at Saxe, in Bacon magisterial district, Charlotte county, Virginia,
and directing the disposition of the proceeds thereof.

Whereas, by a deed dated the third day of July, nineteen hun-
dred and one, the county of Charlotte conveyed to the State of
Virginia, a tract of land containing five hundred acres, situated
at Saxe, Bacon magisterial district, Charlotte county, Virginia,
to be used by the State of Virginia as an agricultural experimen-
tal station, and to be held by the State of Virginia, only so long
as the State of Virginia should use it for an agricultural ex-
perimental station, and that whenever the State should cease to
use said farm as an agricultural experimental station, then said
farm should revert to the county of Charlotte; and,
Whereas, the board of agriculture and immigration did by
a resolution passed on the seventeenth day of January, nineteen
hundred and twelve, resolve to discontinue and abandon said
farm as an experimental station; and,
Whereas, the board of supervisors of Charlotte county de-
sire to have the authority and power to seli said farm, pri-
vately or publicly, as the said board may deem best, and upon
such terms of credit as said board of supervisors determine;
and,
Whereas, the said board of supervisors desire to rent said
farm until they can effect a sale thereof; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the board: of supervisors of the county of Charlotte, may rent
or sell, either publicly or privately, and upon such terms of credit
as to it may seem best, the said farm containing five hundred
acres, situated at Saxe, in Bacon magisterial district, Charlotte
county, Virginia, and. deliver possession thereof January first,
nineteen hundred and thirteen and said board of supervisors in
disposing of said farm may, if in their judgment it is deemed best
to do so employ an agent or agents for the purpose; and the said
board of supervisors shall upon the payment by the purchaser
of all the purchase money, order a deed conveying with special
warranty the said tract of land to the purchaser, which deed
shall be signed by the chairman and attested by the clerk of the
board of supervisors.
2. The board of supervisors of Charlotte county shall use
the proceeds of any renting or sale made by it, in redeeming
or purchasing any of the outstanding bonds of said county of
Charlotte, or the said board of supervisors may use the pro-
ceeds of any renting or sale made by it in creating a sinking
fund to retire any of the outstanding bonds of the county of
Charlotte as they become due. ;
3. The board of supervisors ot Charlotte county shall invest
the proceeds of any renting or sale made by it in such securities
as it may determine, or the said board of supervisors may deposit
the proceeds of renting or sale made by it in any bank it mav
select, taking from said bank a bond payable on demand to the
board of supervisors of Charlotte county, with security to be
approved by said board of supervisors of Charlotte county, or
the said board of supervisors may lend the proceeds of any sale
or renting made by it to any person or firm, taking from said
person or firm a bond payable on demand to the board of su-
pervisors of Charlotte county, to be secured by a deed of trust
on real estate, assessed for taxation for twice as much as the
amount of loan to such person or firm.
4. The board of supervisors of Charlotte county, shall when-
ever it may deem it advisable or whenever it may determine to
purchase any of the outstanding bonds of Charlotte county, col-
lect any of the bonds made payable to it under this act. The said
board of supervisors shall collect any rent when it becomes due
and pavable.
5. All acts and parts of acts in conflict with this act or any
part thereof are hereby repealed.
6. An emergency existing therefor, because the board of
supervisors of Charlotte county cannot rent or sell privately
the said tract of land at Saxe, containing five hundred acres,
under the existing laws, this act shall be in force from its pas-
sage.
