CHAP. 12.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 1 of an act approved
March 14, 1908, entitled an act to authorize supervisors of each county
and the council of each city to make a special levy for the support and
maintenance of maimed and disabled Confederate soldiers or the needy
and indigent widows of Confederate soldiers in their respective counties
and cities.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section one of an act of the general assembly of Virginia, ap-
proved March fourteenth, nineteen hundred and eight, entitled
an act to authorize supervisors of each county and the council
of each city to make a special levy for the support and mainte-
nance of maimed and disabled Confederate soldiers or the needy
and indigent widows of Confederate soldiers in their respective
counties and cities, be so amended as to hereafter read as
follows:
§1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful, and authority is especially given to the board
of supervisors of each county, and the council of each city in the
State, to make an annual levy, at their discretion, on the real
and personal property in the said county and city of not more
than ten cents on every one hundred dollars worth of said prop-
erty, to be collected and set apart and known as pension fund,
and to be used only in caring for, supporting and helping the
maimed, disabled, afflicted and indigent widows of Confederate
soldiers, Who shall receive the care, support and help from said
pension fund as provided for in this act.
It being necessary for the several boards of supervisors to
make the levy as soon as_ possible, therefore an emergency
exists, and this act shall take effect from its passage.
