CHAP. 104.—An ACT to amend and re-enact sub-sections four, five, seven
and eight of section 184 of the Code of Virginia, as amended and
re-enacted by an act approved January 24, 1908, entitled an act to
amend and re-enact sub-sections four, five, six, seven, eiyht and nine
of section 184 of the Code of Virginia, as amended by an act entitled
“An act to amend and re-enact sub-section 184 concerning the salary
of members and officers of the gencral assembly, approved March 6,
1900, and as amended by an act entitled an act to amend and re-enact
title eight of the Code of Virginia, in relation to salaries, mileage and
other allowances, approved February 7, 1903.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
sub-sections four, five, seven and eight of section one hun-
dred and eighty-four of the Code of Virginia, as amended and
re-enacted by an act approved January twenty-fourth, nineteen
hundred and eight, entitled an act to amend and re-enact sub-
sections four, five, six, seven, cight and nine of section
one hundred and eighty-four of the Code of Virginia, as amended
by an act entitled, ‘fan act to amend and re-enact sub-section
one hundred and eighty-four concerning the salary of members
and officers of the general assembly, approved March sixth, nine-
teen hundred, and as amended by an act entitled an act to amend
and re-enact title eight of the Code of Virginia, in relation to
salaries, mileage and other allowances, approved February
seventh, nineteen hundred and three, be amended and re-enacted
so as to read as follows:
§184. In the legislative department, fourth assistant clerks,
journal and reading clerks, document clerks and _ librarian,
the assistant clerk of the senate and the assistant clerk
of the house shall each receive the sum of eight dollars per
day during the session of the general assembly; the journal
clerk and the reading clerk of the senate and the journal clerk
and the reading clerk of the house shall each receive the sum
of eight dollars per day during the session of the general as-
sembly; the document clerk and the librarian of the senate shall
receive the sum of three dollars per dav and keep his office open
every day except Sundays and legal holidays; except during the
session of the general assembly, he shall receive the sum of six
dollars per day.
Fifth. Pay of enrolling and engrossing clerks. An enrolling
clerk to be appointed by the clerk of the house of delegates, a
sum not exceeding six dollars per day during the session of
the general assembly, and an engrossing clerk to be appointed
by the clerk of the house of delegates a sum not exceeding
eight dollars per day during the session of the general assembly-
Seventh, of sergeant at arms. The sergeant at arms of the
senate and the sergeant at arms of the house of delegates, each
the sum of eight dollars per day during the session of the
general assembly; and in addition thereto for taking any person
into custody by order of their respective houses, two dollars; for
each day such person is detained in custody, two dollars; and
for the travel of such sergeant or a messenger under such order,
eight cents per mile in going to the place of arrest; but no
allowance shall be made for the arrest or custody of members
wo may be taken in the city of Richmond under a call of either
ouse.
Eighth, of door keepers. The first and second door keepers
of the two houses, each the sum of eight dollars per day during
the session of the general assembly.
2. That the employees of the general assembly in this act
named may receive the benefits thereof at this session from the
beginning thereof, an emergency exists for the immediate pass-
age of this act, and the same shall be in force from its passage.
