Chap. 235.—An ACT to amend and re-enact sub-section 1 of section 184 of the
Code as amended and re-enacted by an act entitled “an act to amend and
re-enact title 8 of the Code of Virginia, in relation to salaries, mileage, and
other allowances,” approved February 7, 1903.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That subsection
one of section one hundred and eighty-four of the Code of Virginia, of an
act entitled “an act to amend and re-enact title eight of the Code of Vir-
ginia, in relation to salaries, mileage, and other allowances.” approved
February seventh, nineteen hundred and three, be amended and re-enacted
so as to read as follows:
$184. In the legislative department.—First. Salarv of members and
officers of the general assembly.—The president of the senate and the
speaker of the house of delegates, each the sum of seven hundred an
twenty dollars, and the other members of the general assembly, cach the
sum of five hundred dollars for attendance and services at each regular
session of the general assembly; and at all extra sessions, the president
of the senate and the speaker of the house of delegates, each three hu
dred and sixty dollars, and the other members of the general assembly.
each the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars for attendance upon the
duties of their respective houses; the said salary to be paid in the follow-
ing manner: To the president of the senate and the speaker of the house
nf delegates, cach the sum of eighty dollars per week, and the other mem-
hers of the general assembly, each the sum of fifty-six dollars per week,
until their respective salaries are exhausted, or until the general assembly
adjourns: at which time the whole amount of their salaries remaining
unpaid, if any, shall then be paid. Any sick member, or one who shall
have obtained leave of absence, shall receive such salary as is due him in
the same manner as if he had been in his seat.
If during any session of the general assembly any member shall die.
or otherwise, vacate his seat, and his successor be elected, the personal
representative of the deceased member shall receive the uncollected com-
pensation up to the date of the death of such deceased member, and the
successor of the said deceased member shall receive said per diem begin-
ning from the date of his election, and members of legislative committees
which may sit during any recess of the gencral assenibly may receive
rompensation at the rate of six dollars per day for the time actually em-
ploved in the discharge of their duty.
