Law Body
Chap. 33.—An ACT to authorize the council of the town of Stuart to erect
a stand-pipe or tank and tower on One corner of the Courthouse Square in
Patrick county.
Approved February 2, 1901.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it shall be
lawful for the town council of the town of Stuart, in Patrick county, by
and with the consent of the board of supervisors first obtained for that
purpose, to erect, or cause to be erected, a suitable stand-pipe or tank and
tower as a part of the water-works system of said town, on the back corner
of the court-house square, in said town, adjacent to Blue Ridge street.
And when such stand-pipe or tank and tower shall be erected, the said
council shall have exclusive control of such portion of said court-house
square as may be necessary, not to exceed forty-five feet square, however,
for-all the purposes of maintaining and keeping in repair such stand-pipe
or tank and tower: provided, however, that should such stand-pipe or
tank and tower be not erected within five years from the passage of this
act, then this act shall be null and void; and, provided further, that if,
after said stand-pipe or tank and tower has been erected, the same shall
be abandoned by the council of said town for six months, and the said
site is no longer used as a site for such stand-pipe or tank and tower,
then the said site or lot shall no longer be subject to the exclusive con-
trol of said council; but it shall be subject to the control of the board of
supervisors of said county, as if this act had not been passed.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
