Chap. 324.——An ACT to amend and re-enact section 92 of an act entitled an
act to incorporate the city of Newport News, in the county of Warwick.
and to provide a charter therefor, approved January 16, 1896.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
ninety-two of an act entitled an act to incorporate the city of Newport
News, in the county of Warwick, and to provide a charter therefor, ap-
proved January sixteenth, eighteen hundred and ninecty-six, be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 92. Justice of the peace.—There shall be one justice of the peace for
each ward of said city, who shall reside and have his oftice in his re-
spective ward and not elsewhere, and who shall hold office for the term
of two years, or until his successor be elected and qualified, unless sooner
removed from office.
Each justice of said city may issue processes in favor of or against any
person in said city: but said processes shall be issued from and returnable
in the ward in which said justice resides, and not elsewhere. If any
justice violate the provisions of this act the office of said justice shall be
deemed to be vacant.
The said justices of the peace shall be conservators of the peace within
the limits of the corporation of Newport News and one mile beyond, and
shall have the same powers and duties within said limits, and receive for
their services such fees as are prescribed by law in respect to justices of
the peace in the counties of this state in their respective counties.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
