Chap. 290.—An ACT to authorize the council of the town of Basic City to
close up and abandon a part of Essex avenue in said town and convey to a
private corporation or individual the fee simple or other less title in the
part of said street so closed.
Approved February 16, 1901.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the town
council of the town of Basie City be, and it is, hereby authorized and
empowered to close up and abandon that portion of Essex avenue within
the said town, lying north of the northern line of Fifth street and be-
tween the knitting factory property on the east and the Paper fabrique
property on the west (if said council sees fit). to convey to the owner of
said Paper fabrique company property the fee simple or other less estate
in or to the Jand composing that part of said avenue so abandoned and
closed up; such conveyance to be absolute, or upon such terms or condi-
tions as may be specified in the conveyance.
2. The action of the said town council in so closing or-abandoning
the said portion of Tessex avenue, or in conveying any estate or interest
in the land composing that part of said avenue so abandoned, shall be by
ordinance duly enacted in the manner prescribed for the enactment of
gencral ordinances, and recorded in the record of the proceedings of said
council: and in case of a conveyance of any land or estate therein under or
y virtue of this act such conveyance shall be by deed executed in the name
the town of Basic City, under its corporate seal, executed by the mayor
the said town, attested by the clerk of the council and containing a
cital at length of the ordinance authorizing such conveyance.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
