Chap. 214.—An ACT in relation to the erection of gates across public high-
ways in the county of Rockbridge. Virginia.
Approved February 15, 1901.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, ‘That where
gates may be, or at any time have been permitted across any public
highway in the county of Rockbridge, Virginia, that the owner or owners
of the land through which any road or roads so enclosed by gates may
pass, shall keep the said road or roads in repair so far as enclosed, at their
own expense, under the requirements and penalties prescribed for road
overseers in the laws governing such matters in the part of the state
wherein such road or roads may be situated. The gates shall be of such
a character and kept in such order as to be easily opened by a person on
horseback without dismounting. But the gates erected shall be discon-
tinued whenever the court may so direct after twenty days’ notice to the
parties to be affected thereby.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
