Chap. 16.—An ACT to suspend collection from Bedford county, Virginia, for
penalties for certain escaped convicts working on its roads.

Whereas the county of Bedford, Virginia, has in the last eight years
spent large sums of money in regrading and improving its roads, and is
using convict labor thercon, five of which convicts thereon have escaped
from custody; and
Whereas the said county has spared no pains or money to recapture
them, and in the effort to recapture them has spent over three hundred
dollars, being more than the penalties for said escape, and is continuing
its efforts to recapture them by rewards and other means; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the collec-
tion of the penalties for the said escapes be suspended for one year from
the passage of this act.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
