Chap. 81.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 5 of an act approved March
8, 1875, entitled an act to incorporate the town of Glade Springs,in Washing-
ton county.
Approved January 18, 1896.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sec-
tion five of an act approved March eighth, eighteen hundred and
seventy-five, entitled an act to incorporate the town of Glade Springs,
n the county of Washington, be amended and re-enacted so as to
ead as follows:
3 5. It shall be lawful for the mayor and council of said town to
issess and collect an annual tax in said town on all such property,
eal and personal, in said town, as is now subject to taxation by the
evenue laws of the state of Virginia; provided that the tdx on real
ud personal estate shall not exceed in any one year twenty cents on
very hundred dollars of the assessed value thereof for all purposes,
xcept keeping up the streets and roads of said town, and in opening
rading and improving the same, for which purpose an additional
evy not exceeding ten cents on every hundred dollars of the assessed
alue of said property may be laid and collected by the town coun-
i] and expended under its direction, and no other tax shall be col-
ected on said property within the corporate limits of said town for
oad purposes.
And provided, further, that any land or lot on which there is no
welling house or tenement, shall be exempt from taxation by said
orporate authorities, except for road purposes.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
