Chap. 73.—An ACT to prohibit Attachments in certain cases.
Pasacd Murch 3, 1866.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall not
be lawful for any creditor to sue out an attachment against
the goods, chattels or effects of a nonresident debtor, that
such debtor shall have brought into this state, bona fide to
dispose of in the markets of Virginia, or to ship through Vir-
ginia ports to other points, or that such debtor shall have
urchased in Virginia markets, or purchased elsewhere, and
ave brought to Virginia cities or towns, to be shipped to
any place in or out of the state, in the regular course of
trade, whether such goods, chattels or effects be in transitu,
or actually delivered at their place of destination in Virginia:
provided, that nothing in this act contained shall affect or
impair the mercantile right of stoppage in transitu, or any
remedy for enforcing such right.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
