Chap. 68.—An ACT staying the Collection of Debts fora Limited Period.
Passed Deeonrbcr 19, 1864,
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
no execution, venditioni exponas, attachment or other process
to compel the payment of money, or the sale of property for
that purpose, shall be issued, or if heretofore issued, shall be
proceeded with, and that no judgment, deerce or or der for the
payment of money, render ed or made during the period this
act is in force, shall operate as a lien upon any estate, held o1
owned, or any interest in such estate, by the person or per-
sons against whom such judgment, decree or order may be
rendered or made; nor shall there be any sale under a deed
of trust, mortgage, pledge or other security; nor under any
judgment, decree or order for the payment of any money
while this act remains in force, unless by consent of par ties |
provided, that no part of this act. shall apply to the cities o!
Norfolk and Pertsmouth, nor the counties of Accomack,
Northampton, Norrolk and Princess Anne; but the act enti-
tled an act staving the collection of debts, passed January
twenty-third, eighteen hundred and sixty-vour, and the amend-
ments thereof, passed June twenty-third, eighteen hundred
and sixty-five, shall remain in force. so far as the said cities
and counties are concerned, with the exception that. sales of
property may take place under the Judgements and decrees of
courts in eases where the collection of debts is not the object
of such sales,
2. Tf any execution shall have been levied before the pas-
suse of this act, the property levied on shall be restored to
the detendant, but shall remain subjeet to the len of the
execution aforesaid,
3. Phis act shall be in foree from the passage thereof, and
shall so continue during the present session of this general
asscmibly, unless sooner altered, amended or repealed.
