Chap. 343.—An ACT for the relief of William E, Goodwin, late Sheriff of
Prince William County.

Whereas William E. Goodwin, late sheriff of Prince Wil-
liam county, whose term of oflice expired on the day
of , , eighteen hundred , has been prevented
by the war from collecting the amounts ‘due him, as provided
by the fourth section of “chapter thirty-six of the Code of
Virginia, notwithstanding he has advanced and paid the
whole revenue of the county into the treasury of the state:
Therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
lawful for the said William E. Goodwin, by himself or his
deputies, to have the same powers of distress and sale as he
possessed before said term expired, to enforce the collection
of the taxes due him in said county. The right of distress
and sale shall continue for the term of two years from the
first day of January, eighteen hundred and sixty-six: pro-
vided, however, that any person so assessed with taxes re-
maining unpaid shall be entitled to a stay of its collection
tor twelve months. The hen for the amount thereof’ shall
be unaffected by such stay.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
