Chap. 337.—aAn ACT for the relief of L. A. Miller, late Sheriff of
Frederick County.
Passed February 13, 1866.
Whereas L. A. Miller, Inte sheriff of Frederick county,
whose term of office expired’ on the first day of January,
eighteen hundred and sixty-one, has been prevented by the
war from collecting the amounts due him, as provided by
the fourth section of chapter thirty-six of the Code of Vir-
ginia, notwithstanding he has advanced and paid the whole
revenue of the county into the treasury of the state: There-
fore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
lawful for L.A. Miller, by himself or his deputies, to have
the same powers of distress and sale, as he possessed before
said term expired, to enforee the collection of the taxes due
him in said county. The rizht of distress and sale shall con-
tinue for the term of two years from the first of January,
eivhtecn handred and sixty-six: provided, however, that any
person so assessed with taxes remaining unpaid, shall be
entitled to a stay of its collection for tw -elve months. The
lien for the amount thereof shall be unaffected. by. such stay.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
