Chap. 322.—An ACT to incorporate the Church Hill Female Seminary in
the County of Henrico.
Passed February 26, 1866.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That A. E. Dick-
inson, Hiram Oliver, E. 8. Turpin, A. B. Clark, William H.
Gordon, Thomas W. Tignor and James Leigh Jones, their
associates and successors, be and they are hereby incorpo-
rated for purposes of education, by the name and style of
The Church Hill Female Seminary, in.the County of Hen-
rico; by which name, they shall have perpetual succession.
and a common seal; may sue and be sued, implead and be
impleaded; and purchase, take and hold lands, goods and
chattels: provided, that the amount or value of property to
be held by said seminary shall not exceed twenty-five thou-
sand dollars.
2. The members of the association above incorporated
shall have power to make such by-laws, rules and regulations,
not contrary to the laws of this state and of the United
States, as they may deem proper for the good of the semi-
nary; to appoint and remove officers and teachers; and in
connection with the presifent and professors of the semi-
nary, to confer such diplomas and literary titles as they may
think best calculated to promote the cause of education.
3. The legislature reserves the right to modify or repeal
the charter at pleasure.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
